Cinematographer Seamus McGarvey revealed Thursday last week that he used iPhone to shoot footage for the upcoming high-budget film “The Avengers” (will be released on May 4, 2012).

“On ‘The Avengers,’ I did a couple of shots on the iPhone and they are in the movie,” McGarvey said. “In fact they are in the trailer!”

McGarvey did not specify, though, which shots were taken by the iPhone handset and which model was used to record the scenes. However, only 2 iPhones with video recording capabilities were available during the shooting in April – either iPhone 3Gs which has a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera or the 5-megapixel, 720p HD-capable iPhone 4.

Moreover, McGarvey explained that he didn’t make a compromise when choosing the handset, saying that “every piece of kit should be tailored to what you’re trying to achieve.” He goes on to underscore that camera equipment does not define a film, but rather the decisions made with what is available.

“I understand that sometimes there is no choice and you have to go for the cheapest option, but if you are limited for choice, you can still make poignant decisions that will affect the look of the film,” he said.

McGarvey’s previous films include relatively low-budget dramas like ‘Atonement,’ ‘Charlotte’s Web’ and ‘The World Trade Center.’ According to him, The Avengers was a big different from his previous work, bringing more money and more sophisticated equipment to the project.

In his interview with BBC Network Monday morning (June 27), Tom Hanks, who voiced Woody’s character, was asked if there would be another installment. He said he thinks there will be and they (Disney PIXAR) are working on it now. Although there was no confirmation yet coming from Disney PIXAR.

This could be puzzling to all Toy Story fan out there who thought that Toy Story 3 was the last installment since it provided a sort of closure for the story.

Toy Story 3 won two Oscars for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song.

Ads and I were in SM Mall of Asia when we saw this giant robot replica standing at the ground level of the mall. We didn’t first recognize who that robot was and I can barely remember that that robot was one of the robots in Transformer 2: Revenge of the Fallen. We were told that the robot‘s name is SKID. He was one of the twin robots you once watched in Transformers 2. His twin brother is Mudflap.

Skid was not there primarily to promote the up and coming movie of Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon but for the exhibition of Chevrolet Philippines for its latest model of SPARK. Skid and Mudflap are Chevrolet Sparks in their untransformed state.

Honestly speaking, I’ve got a crush on this mini passenger car. I told myself that if only I have excess money I would buy one. Currently, its cash price is P568,000.

The theatrical trailer of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the film’s last installment, has been released and became available last April 28, 2010.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon will be shown in cinemas on July 1, 2011. Ads and I will surely not miss to watch this one. In 3D? Perhaps, no. We’ll see.
