This index shows the current level of attractiveness that companies have as employers. Google ranked first in both categories.

The survey was participated by 160,000 career seekers with business or engineering background from the world’s 12 largest economies, such as Brazil, Canada,China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, Spain, U.K., and U.S.

But wait, this is a good news to my students in BS Accountancy. Just behind Google in no. 1 spot are well-known auditing and accounting firms (the BIG Three is here): KPMG, PwC, Ernst & Young and Deloitte. As I always advise to my accounting students when they pass the CPA board exam, aim to be hired in one of the big auditing or accounting firms here in the Philippines because the accounting profession is now global.

The survey also reveals that American companies appear very attractive to prospective employees – 28 of the top 50 companies in the survey are based in the US. Among the companies in the engineering category, 26 are based in the US. Germany is the second most represented country.

Thanks Kat for allowing us share this piece of yours here in our blog. Ads and I were blessed upon reading this from your facebook note.

Here it is:

Playing the Game to Win – The Four Point Play

Honourable guests, beloved professors, students, achievers, a pleasant good morning to all of you. It is my privilege to speak to you all today so let me first say thank you, Professor Sevilla for this opportunity.

Congratulations, young achievers! It’s only right for you guys to give yourselves a big round of applause, you made it on top! Good job! Good job!

I wish I could be just like Sir Winston Churchill, and this would have been a very simple task. When Churchill spoke at one commencement exercise, he only said six words – Never give up! With his loud, booming voice, he said it again – Never give up! And then he walked away. Just like that.

But I find it inappropriate to just say never give up. After all, I am speaking to young achievers, the cream of the crop, the best and the brightest, and you people already know that. Kaya nga kayo nandito ngayon because you were the ones who never gave up. Nothing can stop you. Just like a true Ginebra player, you never say die, right? Else, you wouldn’t be here.

So I asked myself, what other message I could share. College, or life in general, is like a race, a game. Let me share with you how I survived College and remain on top of my game.

I was just like you. Achiever. Top student. Dean’s lister. Accounting champion. In short, I was an excellent student, very competitive. Can I see the hands of the freshmen/sophomores achievers? Was it hard making it on top? Was it hard getting that 1.25, 1.5 general average? I got a better question, how do you plan to stay on top? How do you make it till the end? We will try to answer that as I share with you my 4-point play.

I’m a huge basketball fan. Anybody here knows basketball? What is a 4-point play? Let me share with you my own version of a 4-point play. Four elements that helped me survived and finished the race on top of my game. Are you ready?

The Coach

As in basketball, the best players are the coachable ones. Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant have successful careers not only because they’re talented. They were privileged enough to be coached by the great Phil Jackson. I do believe that despite being super-talented, they were/are coachable. Don’t let your achievements get in your head. Remain coachable. Trainable. Teachable. Never stop learning. PUPT has the best professors. I should know, they were my professors and looked where they got me. I believe they also deserve to be recognized today so why don’t we all give them a big round applause for a job well done.

The Court

The court is your inner circle. One thing I enjoyed in College was group projects. The people you met here can be your life-long friends. I went to College with your Professor Jayson Jarabata and former Professor Fernando Dela Fuente. They are my friends up to this day and they were part of my inner circle back in College. Always remember your inner circle. Just because you’re on the Dean’s list and your friends are not doesn’t make them inferior to you. Actually, you’re supposed to help them make it to the list too! Your friends and classmates are not your competitors. You only compete with yourself. A basketball team is most efficient when they are working in unity. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you let them copy your work, but rather, you influence them to become better students. Mas masaya na buong barkada mo kasama mo diyan, katabi sa upuan, pinaparangalan, pinapalakpakan.

The Crowd

The crowd is your morale booster. How many of you have watched a PBA game live? The most popular teams, Ginebra, San Miguel and Purefoods – they have the most loyal fans. In a close game, you don’t want to play against these teams, they got energy boosters all over the court! Your family and friends are your most loyal fans. Your sixth man. When the going gets really tough and you are overwhelmed, your family and friends are there to cheer you up. Cherish them. Make sure you stay connected no matter how busy you are in your studies. I lost my father when I was very young. It has always been my mother. Despite having to work to support our studies, she never fails to check on us, to make sure we’re on track.

The Center

Finally, the Center. The center plays a very crucial role in a team. Just look at Marcus Douthit of the RP Team. The Nationals play a different kind of game whenever Marcus is on the court. Chris Tiu and the others are not afraid to take outside shots because Marcus is there for a follow-up in case they missed. He also acts as the last line of defense. Imagine having a 6-11 of a giant in the middle of the court, any player would think twice before attacking that defense, and very few can be successful.

I met the “Center” of my life when I was 18 years old at a Youth Ablaze summer youth camp in Baguio City. He promised to never leave me nor forsake me. He knows his plans for me, plans to prosper me and not to harm me, plans to give me hope and a future. I can be still because He is the Center of my life. His name is Jesus and we have been team mates for the past 13 years and my life was never the same again.

I’m still running the race with Him. I’m not afraid to take the shots because He’s there for a follow-up in case I missed.

I graduated Cum Laude in 2001, passed the CPA Board on that same year. I completed my Masters just last year. I have a very generous employer and have been working with the best people in the industry for almost seven years now. I’ve got money in the bank, I have a car, and I have travelled to different places here and abroad. In your eyes, in the eyes of the watching world, I am successful, a winner in the game of life.

But you know what I’m most proud of? I am privileged to take part on different advocacy programs for kids. For the past three years, I and my friends from BSP have organized outreach programs in different orphanages and community. I’m also very much involved in educational assistance programs for kids and youths. This is God’s game plan for me. I took the challenge of being used by God to make a difference in the lives of these kids. It gave me a different kind of high, far more fulfilling than meeting Mickey Mouse in Disneyland. Yes, I am successful. I am doing what I am created for.

True success comes from knowing and fulfilling your purpose, the reason you were created. For example, this microphone. I don’t know who invented the microphone but we all know its purpose. So the people at the back can hear me. Can you hear me? If yes, then the microphone is successful. But what if I used it as a hammer, trying to fix a broken door or window or this podium? Was the microphone successful? Do you think the microphone is happy being a hammer?

There is nothing wrong with all our achievements and recognitions. These are the means/stepping stones for which we can win this game, fulfil our destiny. But we need to make sure that we are running our race, playing our game and not that of others. We need to go back to the “Center” to find our purpose, our game plan. The inventor of the microphone knows its purpose. The Creator of the Universe knows yours.

Finally, Lebron James. He has a famous billboard. Anyone familiar with that billboard? What does it says? It says, “We are all witnesses”. But you know what, we’re more than that. You are more than that. So if you didn’t make it this year, this message is for you. Don’t be content of watching others receive their recognitions and awards. This is for you, too. We are all meant to shine. You are meant to shine. Don’t be just a witness to somebody else’s success, be the one being witnessed.

For the graduates, when you go out there, don’t ask, “Am I ready for the world? But ask this, “World, are you ready for me?”

I am blessed to be here and I pray that all of your will find the “Center” and fulfil your destiny. You are destined for greatness! Again, congratulations and God bless us all!
